Library Membership & Borrowing

LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP

Membership is free to anyone residing in the Rochester Community or attending Rochester School.

Members have access to our eResources for professional training, genealogy, language learning, studying, and so much more.

If the item you are looking for is not on the shelf in your local library, you have access to 200+ other Alberta libraries available to you using the online TRACPAC catalogue.  Here you are able to place holds, renew items, and even check out eresources directly.  Items you have ordered will be delivered wherever you want, and we'll let you know when they arrive.

Members are also able to search a title by using the Relais service. These items are available from anywhere in Alberta - including Edmonton, Calgary, and post-secondary institutions.

Borrow and return items from any public library in Alberta using the Me Libraries service.

BORROWING

Loans

  • Books/Magazines - 3 weeks
  • Audiobooks - 3 weeks
  • Movies - 1 week
  • Telus Wifi hubs - 4 weeks
  • Novelty Cake Pans - 3 weeks

The Telus hubs and the cake pans are only available to Rochester patrons in good standing.

Each member is responsible for all materials charged out on his/her membership card. It is the member’s responsibility to ensure that items are returned on time and in good order. Patrons who have overdue items will have their membership privileges suspended until the item(s) are returned or a replacement cost is paid.

Renewals

Renewals can be made by logging into your account or calling the library during operating hours and request a renewal.

An item can only be renewed if it has not been requested elsewhere.

Overdue Charges

All overdue items: 10¢ per item per day. Note that overdue fines may be different for materials belonging to libraries other than Rochester

Access to items will be restricted when your account reaches $10.00 or more in fines.

Damaged Item Charges

  • If an item is severely damaged while on your library account, you will be charged for the replacement cost of the item
  • Library staff will check for damage before checking out an item to you, but please check yourself before taking the item home
  • Inform library staff if you notice anything out of order
  • Library staff cannot accept replacements, even if identical, without first having the replacement approved
  • Please inform library staff if you have damaged an item and we will work with you to find an appropriate solution

Members are responsible for all materials signed out on their membership. If an item is lost or returned damaged, the member must pay the charges before any other items may be checked out.
